As always, below is a breakdown of some of the more interesting statistics for the 2012 Old Blue Eyes Memorial Celebrity Death Watch. Pop a top, pour it out, drink it slow, and read on...

A total of 161 Death Watchers are playing this year. That's fifteen more players than last year. Death Watchers from 28 states in the U.S. are playing as are Death Watchers from 5 other countries. The states represented and the number of Death Watchers from each are: AZ(3) CA(20), CO(6), FL(14), IL(8), IN(7), KY(1), LA(6), MA(3), MD(2), ME(2), MI(4), MN(2), MO(4), NE (4), NJ(17), NY(15), OH(7), OR(2), PA(2), SC(1), TN(1), TX(3), VA(5), VT(1), WA (3), WI(4) and WV(4). The countries represented and the number of Death Watchers from each are: Australia(3), Canada(3), Italy (1), Sweden (1) and United Kingdom(2).

161 lists should result in 2093 total picks entered (Really! Try it on your calculator!). Of course, we considered a good number of picks ***Not A Celebrity*** this year. Yup, a total of 43 names were considered ***Not A Celebrity*** to be exact. Two of those 43 names appeared on two lists each. That means a total of 45 picks got eliminated as ***Not a Celebrity***. Those 45 lousy picks occupied spots across 30 total lists. All of this reduced the total number of picks in play to 2048. Just as a side note, one of the ***Not a Celebrity*** picks wasn't just bad, the dude (Orrin Tucker) was already dead! Sheesh.

Unfortunately, the ***Not A Celebrity*** count went up to 43 from 16 last year (a 268% increase). This forced the The Guys to cosume a whole lot of time (and beer) in order to make determinations. Heck, we received 99 names not already in the database posted on the web-page (just click Frank's picture on the Main Page for the 2012/2013 updated celebrity database). Of those 99 names, we excluded 43 names (43.4%)! We're heading in the wrong direction!!! Immediate face, name, or character recognition is key. If you had to Google a pick, it probably wasn't the greatest pick!

One more thing about ***Not A Celebrity*** picks. We aren't going to argue with you, hear you out, or entertain your crappy rationalizations, gripes, whines, or any other similar annoyances regarding your stinky pick getting scratched. You paid yer money (we hope) you took yer chances. We call this the Ronnie Hawkins stipulation.

We had one list entered which was short one pick. This one missing pick drops the total pick count down to 2047 picks. The player, Off With Their Heads, should play one position short for the year. However, because Off With Their Heads also had a ***Not A Celebrity*** pick on the list, that list is two positions short.

One genius, Worm Meat Loaf, entered a list containing two picks that were already dead (Ruby Muhammad and Dolores Hope). Come on Worm Meat Loaf, both of those deaths are posted on the OBE Dead Now page for 2011 (now in the Archives). Anyway, that means our pick count drops by two to 2045.

No alternates were exercised this year. None. Zero. That means the pick count is holding steady in this paragraph.

Not in this one though....We had one player, Twilight Zone, who entered a list with no picks! Yup, Twilight Zone is wagering that no one on anyone's list will die this year. Of course that's not really in the rules and we shouldn't allow it. However, Twilight Zone also made a $50 donations to the Debt Watch. So heck, if no one dies we'll pay out! Of course an empty list means that the pick count is reduced by 13 to 2032 total picks.

Speaking of the Debt Watch, here's how things went. 79 (49.1%)Death Watchers donated this year. The other 50.9% of you are really taking advantage of these other folks. That's not good for your Karama. We're just saying. Oh, to be fair, we also recieved a $5 gift card to McDonalds from one player (that is not included in the donation info above). Thanks, It's Time To Sleep, the sole O.B.E. related progeny (who is 12 years old) claimed that thing for chicken nuggets almost immediately.

So Guys, what the Ferlin Husky does all this crap really mean? Great question little unknown singer! It means you should open another beer, take a sip, take another, okay down it and get another beer... quickly... we'll wait... ... ... ... sit back and read this.

There are a total of 161 lists with a total of 2032 total valid picks entered. 362 different celebrities (39 less than last year!) make up the 2032 picks. Of the 362 celebrities picked to stop breathing, 177 (48.9%) were on only one list (the Tad Szulcs), 66 (14.6%) were on only two lists (the double whammies), 55 (10.8%) were on three or four lists (the mortage a trois) and the remaining 93 (25.7%) were on five or more lists.

The number one pick this year is the same as it was last year. That indestructable dame, Zsa Zsa Gabor appears on 121 (75.2%) lists. Kirk Douglas, the elder half of that great father/son Death Watch duo, was the number two pick appeaing on 90 (55.9%) lists. Kirk is up from the number three most common pick position last year. The third most common pick this year, appearing on 79 lists (49.1%), is Etta James. Last year Etta appeared on only one list. Atta girl, Etta James.
